First Scientific Publication Presented at the IEEE ICC Conference

We are proud to announce that the GEH LIFE project team presented its first scientific paper at the 2025 IEEE International Conference on Communications Workshops (ICC Workshops), held from 8–12 June 2025.

The paper, titled “Digital Twins for Hydroponic Farms Management: Communication Needs and Challenges”, was authored by Souhaima Stiri and Maria Rita Palattella from LIST.

This work introduces a Digital Twin (DT) framework for the management of hydroponic farms, as proposed within the LIFE project funded under the Green Era Hub programme. The framework connects the physical farm system—including modules for manure transformation, rainwater capture, environmental control, and hydroponic irrigation—with its digital counterpart, enabling automated resource management, real-time monitoring, and predictive analytics.

The paper discusses the technical challenges associated with data synchronization, interoperability, and the design of a robust communication and computing infrastructure. To validate the framework’s technical feasibility and economic viability, a pilot deployment is currently underway in Luxembourg, providing valuable insights into the system’s scalability, adaptability, and real-world impact.
